Openwave Ropes In Microsoft

Openwave, a provider of mobile data network products, said Thursday that it has signed a deal with Bellevue-based Microsoft, where Microsoft will license the firm's patent portfolio. Financial details of the license were not disclosed. Openwave said that Microsoft is the first company which is licensing its portfolio of approximately 200 patents, including "foundational" patents covering smart devices and cloud technologies. Openwave says it continues to have compliants in the International Trade Commission and in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware over those patents, against Apple and Research In Motion (RIM).
