Tyfone Gets Patent

Portland-based Tyfone, a developer of mobile payment technology, said Monday that it has gained a patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The firm said patent 7,581,678 covers its smart card-based electronic wallet technology. The patent was granted September 1st, according to the U.S. PTO, and names Siva G. Narendra, Thomas N. Spitzer, and Prabhakar Tadepalli as inventors. Tyfone said the patent covers the use of a memory card as an electronic wallet, and is the basis of its U4ia Mobile Financial Services platform. Accordig to the U.S. PTO, the patent was filed back in February of 2005.
