Trover Takes On Mobile Discovery

Seattle-based Trover, a new startup focused on helping people to explore their neighborhoods, towns, cities, and other places, said today that it has launched its services. The firm--started by Jason Karas, founder of Carbonrally.com; Andrew Colham, formerly of Expedia.com; and Rich Barton, the founder of Expedia.com and Zillow--said it is looking to help people share location-specific discoveries of "remarkable places" and things in a fun, visual way. The service--accessible by mobile app--is aimed at helping users find "places to see and things to do nearby". The service is a spinout of TravelPost, which is backed by General Catalyst Partners, Ignition Partners and Benchmark Capital. Trover said it was spun out of TravelPost on April 1st. The firm's software runs on the iPhone, with an Android version planned for the fall.
