Apple Confirms Plan for Prineville Data Center

Another technology giant--Apple Computer--has now confirmed its plans for a data center in the once-sleepy agricultural town of Prineville, Oregon, after buying a 160-acre parcel for $5.6M from Crook County. According to a thorough investigative report by KTVZ, the confirmation came after the filing of a statuatory warranty deed for the property with the Crook County clerk's office, for a project called "Project Maverick." Apple's new property is near the new data center built by Facebook, along with a dozen other, high profile technology firms setting up in the city. Prineville has become a center of corporate data centers, as those firms look to tap into the climate for cooling, power, and affordable land prices in the region.
