DPReview.com Branches Into Camera Sales, Three Years After Amazon Buy

Seattle-based DPReview.com, the online photography technology news and reviews site, is branching into e-commerce, saying Thursday that it has launched its own e-commerce effort called GearShop. According to the firm, the new store includes "highly curated" cameras, lenses, and photography accessories. The move is a big shift for DPReview.com--which had previously linked all of its reviews to third party e-commerce vendors. The photography gear publisher did not say what spurred it to branch into e-commerce, but did say that it has always felt that it could "build an online store that offers encyclopedic knowledge and personal service from passionate and enthusiastic experts". DPReview.com had originally been based in London, but moved to Seattle in 2010, after it was acquired by Amazon.com. It's was not announced how DPReview.com will fulfill its camera orders, which is likely through Amazon.com's supply chain.
