Novuson Surgical Gets $1.5M SBIR Grant

Bothell, Washington-based Novuson Surgical, a medical devices developer creating a device that uses ultrasound to automatically cauterize tissue during surgery, has received $1.5M in an SBIR grant, the company said Wednesday. The grant, from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Institute of General Medical Sciences, will go towards further development of the company's product. The company's medical device is aimed at rapidly controlling bleeding associated with traumatic injuries, to help in performing quick surgeries, and quickly remove tumors. Novuson is a spinout from the University of Washington, and the Applied Physics Laboratory's Center for Industrial and Medical Ultrasound.
