Amazon Expands Solar Farms Effort In Virginia

Seattle-based Amazon.com said this week that it is kicking off five new solar projects in Virginia, as part of an effort to boost solar power for its AWS Cloud efforts. According to Amazon, the new projects total 180 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy capacity, and will be on the grid before the end of 2017. Amazon said the deal makes it one of the largest corporate backers of solar projects east of the Missippi River. Amazon did not say how much it is investing in the new solar projects, which are being built by Virginia Solar LLC and Community Energy Solar. The solar farms will be owned by Dominion Resources Inc.
