Amazon.com Subsidiary Purchases SnapTell

Palo Alto-based A9.com, a subsidiary of online retailer Amazon.com, has acquired SnapTell Inc., SnapTell reported on its company blog Tuesday afternoon. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Founded in 2003, A9.com Inc. provides search-and-browse services and targeted advertisements to Seattle-based Amazon. SnapTell, which was established in 2006 and is also headquartered in Palo Alto, provides a visual search service that allows consumers to learn more about products simply by taking pictures of them with their mobile phones. SnapTell's Snap.Send.Get application analyzes those images and responds with relevant product pricing, information and reviews. SnapTell noted that its service will not be interrupted as the company transitions under new ownership.
