Kryptiq Gains Patent

Portland-based Kryptiq Corp. announced Thursday that it has scored a patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The firm, which operates and information network for patient data, said the patent covers its technique for encrypting and transferring electronic data. The patent number is 7,299,357, and is entitled "Opaque Message Archives". According to the U.S. Patent and Trademark office, the patent was actually issued over a year ago -- on November 20, 2007. A spokesperson for the firm explained that the late announcement provides some context for upcoming news from the firm. Inventors on the patent were Murali Karamchedu -- the firm's Chief Architect -- and Jeff Sponaugle, the firm's CTO, who filed the patent back in March of 2003.
