Cray Turns To GPUs For New Cluster Supercomputer

Seattle-based Cray said this morning that it has launched a new, accelerated compute system called the Cray CS-Storm, which uses GPU accelerators. The company said the new product is based on its Cray cS3000 cluster supercomputer, and uses up to eight NVIDIA Tesla GPU accelerators and more than 11 teraflops of performance per node. GPUs are those chips which were originally designed for graphical processing, but are now being used widely for parallel processing and computing. Pricing on the new cluster supercomputer was not announced.
