Microsoft Gives Away Music On Zune

Microsoft Corp. said today that it has reached an agreement with major and independent music labels to allow subscribers of its Zune Pass music subscription service to download and keep 10 tracks per month, for free. The service, which runs with Microsoft's Zune music device, costs $14.99 per month. According to Microsoft, the 10 tracks a month are worth approximately $10. The deal was made with Microsoft and Music, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group (UMG) and Warner Music Group, along with INgrooves, Independent Online Distribution Alliance and The Orchard. In addition to the free music, Microsoft said it will provide DRM-free, MP3 format tracks from Sony BMG and UMG, EMI Music, Warner Music Group and a large portion of the independent music labels.
