Spaceflight Gets First NASA Contract

Seattle-based Spaceflight says it has received its first, ever, NASA contract, to launch "cubesats" into space for the U.S. space agency. According to Spaceflight, it received a NASA Kennedy Space Center Contract (KSC) for launch and integration services, which will cover up to 24 payloads through 2018, and an option to provide launch services for up to 24 additional payloads in 2019 and 2020. Spaceflight said the potential total contract value for those launches is worth more than $5M. "Cubesats" are tiny, miniature satellites which have become very popular with universities and nonprofits to launch experiments into space, using commercial, off-the-shelf electronic components.
